First of all: why the name of the band is no longer Out of Order?
Actually on the web there are no less than two bands named Out of order - a black Hip-Hop band
- a Ska/punk band from Hermosa Beach (CA);
Probably other bands with the same name are all around the world. We don't think there's needing of another one. Now the History. Everything started in the 80's. The first experiences are dated 1983, when the nucleus of the actual group worked as rhythm session in a rock band. The name of the band was Afterhours (but, as you can see, all the names chosen by the group were dropped because already in use...). They recorded some demo between 1983 and 1985, but the difficulty to find adeguate techincal solutions comporimised the quality of that recordings.The guitar player left very soon, so the bassist turned to guitar, and this duo, supported by a Synth Workstation with a little built-in sequencer started working to new "jazz-rock inflected" songs. In the years that followed many bass players joined and parted the group, many of them have been captured on tape, so the first demo tape of Out of Order is dated 1987.The singer arrived just a little bit later, and brought a new perspective in the music of the group. In the years that followed Out of Order recorded several tapes, sometimes supported by bass players, sometimes with no bass at all. The quality of these new recordings is increased by the use of the first digital equipment that Out of Order adopted (a stereo DAT cassette recorder, with no possibility of any kind of overdubs!) and occasionally by the rent of little studios. At the end of 1994 the personnel was augmented by a young keybordist, and in the spring of 1995 the definitive bassist arrived too. This personnell continued working to the formula that Out Of Order chose at the beginning of the 90's. This is the most recorded era of the group. "Bootlegged" is just one of several taped live gigs that documented the music of those years. When at the end of 1995 the singer decided to leave the group, Out of Order had to change format once again. The songs were enriched, the solos were then more improvided, Out of Order became instumental once again... Of course, most of the material was initially derived by songs, but new compositions started to grow and six months later the band had once again two hours of repertory.Out of order was not balanced yet. The keyboards play chords for most of the time, and the player, annoyed by the rule he's got, is increasingly interested to electric bass playing. The group arrived to the paradox of tracks were every member swaps to another intrument (i.e. "Test", as played live between 1995 and 1996), but this seems to be not the final solution. So, when the group seemed ready to start again, another split arrived, and Out of Order became a trio. The keyboardist left to study and play bass professionally, and the sequencer that have been taken away for three years was back in the group as a fourth virtual member. This is the personnell that is still working and that recorded "Anonymous", "L'Heure Bleue" and "Kolyma Tales". A well balanced modern musical group that decided to call not itself. An unnamed trio that self-produces his music just because music have the urge to be. So, when the music is art in itself, the name of the band and the name of the musicians are not so important. This is the modern musical group formerly known as Out of Order.
